how do I get to hpsetup

Asked by Gerald Wisniewski

Thank you for this site I am making the switch to Linux and am a newbe. I am trying to download the drivers for a printer. It is an HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909n. I have followed the instructions on this site as how to do it. It has loaded and I have run the terminal part of the instal. I am using OpenSuSE 11.1. I have even printed out the instructions from a different site so I would have a detailed list in hand. Everything loaded until I get to the part that requires one to use "hp-setup" to finish the installation. I cannot get "hp-setup to run I get "command not found". Looking for the right bash to get "hp-setup to run.

Appreciate any and all help,

Gerry

Gerry,

Just to be clear..you are running the command 'hp-setup' only, correct? Not 'hp-setup to run'.

Try running 'hp-check -t' (minus the '') can you post the output?

Thanks.

Aaron

When I try( hp-setup) this is what I get.

error: Unable to load Qt4 support. Is it installed?
gwiz@linux-ptp1:~/Desktop> hp-setup

error: Unable to load Qt4 support. Is it installed?

When I check to see if Qt4 is loaded it appears to be, that is when I click on installed it shows that Qt4 is installed.

That is if this is the Qt4 the program is referring to. I tried running (hp-check-t) and got command not found. I tried many versions and all ended the same.
Would appreciate any suggestions anyone would have.
Thank you,
Gerry

Thanks for answering my first question. I ran 'hp-setup' and this time it did run but resulted in what I sent in my last reply, which is error: Unable to load Qt4 support. Is it installed?
I then checked to see if Qt4 is installed. The results of that search is the rest of the above information that I sent in my last reply.
The file( libqt4-sql-mysql - Qt 4 MySQL support ) is installed. I am assuming this is the Qt4 support the program is asking for.
So I am confused as to why hp-setup will not run. Can you give me any information as to what I may be doing wrong or what to do to get hp-setup to run?

Thanks for all you do,
Gerry

Thank you once again. I am starting to get the hang of this. The last time I ran (hp-check -t) I got command not found. This time I started with super user and this time I got the following response.
error: Unable to load Qt4 support. Is it installed?
linux-ptp1:/home/gwiz/Desktop # hp-check -t

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.9.6)
Dependency/Version Check Utility ver. 14.3

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or
.run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an
already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both
compile- and run-time dependencies).

Saving output in log file: hp-check.log

Initializing. Please wait...

I have tried running (hp-check -c) and (hp-check -r) both results are identical to the one above, the import error. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again

Did you install HPLIP from Yast or from our website? Try removing it in Yast and then installing from our website: http://hplipopensource.com

We do not test the Suse package..however we do test our package on Suse.

Hope this helps!
