Printer Jobs are too slow to be printed

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with the latest HPLIB driver. Whenever I try to send a document for printing to my HP LaserJet 1018, it takes so long before being printed. Any clue what might be the reason? Thanks in advance...

I ugraded to the latest release. Things are better now when I send a document for printing, the printing is done at the normal speed and not slow as in the past.

However, I still get some inconsistent behavior. For instance:
1) When printing some documents, I receive a message that the printer may not be connected although it is connected and running.
2) Printing of some documents might fail without any obvious reasons.

In these cases, I have to restart the printer in order to resolve these issues. Do you think there might be any additional setup required to resolve these problems?
