Officejet 6500 Wireless Unable to send broadcast SLP packet

Asked by Sparachris

hp-setup is unable to find my Officejet 6500 wireless. I am able to manually discover it by entering in its ISP on my wireless network. But it then looses the connection at seemingly random intervals.

When I run "sudo hp-setup" and click Network/Ethernet/Wireless Network, the terminal displays this:

Please run:

hp-makeuri ip.address.of.printer

And post the output.

If you get an error run as well:

ping ip.address.of.printer

Also please run hp-check -t and post the output.

Thanks.

Thanks here's hp-makeuri:

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Saving output in log file: hp-check.log

Initializing. Please wait...

Other than having many printer queues, I don't see any problems. and the queues are reporting good communication with the printer.

What happens if you run:

hp-testpage

Do you get any output?

Yeah--test page printed.... but as I indicated, I had set it up manually, and for now it has the connection.

The error: error: Unable to send broadcast SLP packet: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted

Seems to indicate a locale system configuration issue. I've tested on Jaunty with many network printers and haven't had this problem. I can't be sure what exactly is causing this, you could run:

sudo tail -f /var/log/syslog

and look for some hints.

Other than that, I can't reproduce this and if the printer is working for you--you should be good to go.

Aaron

Can you help with this problem?
