No system tray detected

Asked by Frank

After some system updates on my openSue 11.1 hp-systray is not working anymore.
I got the error

"error: No system tray detected on this system. Unable to start, exiting."

sudo hp-plugin says
warning: No display found.
error: hp-plugin requires GUI support (try running with --qt3). Try using interactive (-i) mode.

Are you using kde or gnome? Usually the errors you are noting indicate that you are using the command line only. Do other applications run in your opensuse 11.1?

I'm using KDE4.1 with 3d desktop
In the meantime I found that there are something else is wrong.
There is not only the hp-systray icon gone. Also the icon for the sound, updates and clipboard are not longer shown in the bottom right corner.

Frank,

This seems to be a system problem because we've tested on kde 4.1 without any problems. Sounds like something is not working with kde...

Yes, it works here also well until my last patchday.
Something in Python or QT4 was changed so that there ist now a problem.
It's sure not a real problem of hp_systray, but I believe more and more people will see this this problem
Maybe the problem will go away after my next patchday

We can reproduce this, however this seems to be a problem with KDE and not with HPLIP.

Thanks for your support of HPLIP--we appreciate it.

If found the problem on my pc.
It was simply that I disabled the mini programm for the system part.
I now enabled this again, and so I can see now the klipper, onlineupdate etc. icons again and also the hplib icon. Seemed that this was the whole problem
