CM1312nfi digital sending feature over ethernet

Asked by dervih

HP CM1312nfi supports the feature scanning initiated from the control panel even over an ethernet.
I can configure it in Windows OS but in Linux-HPLIP I don't.
Is it possible? Maybe using an another software?

I guess it is not same as digital filling feature since all processing/compressing job
is still doing by the driver on PC (hence it can't be configured to pass simply a network shared folder)
However the protocol seems to be very closed to a normal scanning where scanning is initiated from PC.
So I hope that it will be possible on Linux soon :)
Are you going to implement it? If so then when?

I installed hplip with the instructions following link:
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/redhatenterprise.html
everything worked fine
then I started Xsane and he found the scanner with all the tools for scan fax eso
of course this is for REDH5
I will test the scanning this afternoon

If it exist for REDHAT then it must work for others too I think?

Good luck

Fist in all I don't have X server, only a comand line mode, so Xsane does not work. ( I use my linux computer as a server ).
Second: I want to start scanning from the printer.
In this case I want only a listener to run on PC in the background, no interactive user application.
Furthermore I want all scanning parameters to be choosen automatically.
For HP CM1312nfi in Windows OS you can define a few sccaning mode e.g.: document, photo, gray scale document.
and export this mode to the printer. Later you scan from the printer choosing a destination computer from your
local network and one of these mode. What is the most important, the computer must be turned on bacause
the compressing job is being done by the computer, not by scanner. BUT you don't have to clic or type, accept
on computer. Everything is done automatically even filename, destination folder that you configured previously.
So you can scan page by page whithout cruising to your computer!
This is what I want achieve on Linux platform in a comand line mode.

You can configure the digital sending/filing using this method:

Hope this helps, and thanks for your support of HPLIP.

I had already read that page. Alas it has not helped me though.
The method on the page relies on the digital feeling feature.
But I don't have such a feature and there is no option about
a scanning destination place in my printer configuration menu.

However I can init scanning from the printer and choose a destination computer.
This is configured via scanning driver on my "destination" computer (Windows platform)
There is a listener that exports a pre-configured scanning mode list to the printer each time
when "destination" copmuter is being switched on.
On the printer I can choose one mode from the list and press scan button folowed by
the scaner driver listener on my "destination computer" receives the init signal and start
scanning using a previously configured options such a resolution, destination folder,
image file type (jpg, tif) and automaticaly generates a filename.
The configuration is stored on "destination" copmuter, not on the printer!
The feature is very nice, though it is a handicap version of digital filling feature.
Of course digital filling would be better but I enjoy having what I have.

I guess that this is not possible on Linux yet. But I hope that it will be soon :)
I am programmer and I find no difficulties in an implementation.
It boils down to implement a listener demon that receives a scanning init singal,
retrieves the pre-configured scanning mode name and folowed by finds scanning options in a configuration map
and finally starts an ordinary scaning program (of a command line interface) providing all necessary options :)

I have the same issue. Because I have the x-server installed on my server I can run xsane and everything works fine.
BUT, like you, I would like to scan to folder and when I press the 'scan to computer' the answer is no, because, like you said, this is linux.

So, I think, while waiting for a solution, I will install a WinNT server in vmware, which will take car of that feature. I hope this will work like you discribed it.

Let us hope there will be a linux solution soon.

Roland
