missing ~/,hplip/hplip.conf file

Asked by dickey601

PCLINUXOS2009.1, HPOfficejetJ6480, hplip 3.9.2-1, cups 1.3.10-4 Printer hangs after printing first page of certain pdf files. All dependencies have been installed (according to hp-check -r) but get this error message:
"Current contents of '~/.hplip/hplip.conf' file:
error: Could not access file: No such file or directory." Could this cause the print failure? How does the file get into the home directory? I've done reinstalls on all hp pkgs, cleared the printer jobs list after each failure (so no log jams there). Here's a portion of the error log:

has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode

I should add: the mentioned "/.hplip/hplip.conf'" file is located in root's home directory but, not in the user's home directory. I remember seeing that file in the user's home directory sometime in the past. Could this be a permissions issue? Thanks in advance for any help.

CORRECTION: The "/.hplip/hplip.conf" is in the user's home directory NOT in the root's home directory.
05/18/2009 09:20 local time... sorry but will be away from this machine the rest of the day. Will appreciate any help and will give any replies this evening.

From this error:

E [15/May/2009:06:55:10 -0500] [Job 4] Unable to execute pdftops program: No such file or directory

It looks like something is wrong with your cups install. Try reinstalling cups and that should correct this problem.

The conf file should only be in the users directory isn't related to the error you are seeing.

You could try running:

sudo apt-get --reinstall install cups

Although the command may have changed in PCLinuxOS.

If this doesn't work run:

dpkg -s cups

and post the output.

Hope this helps.

I reinstalled cups, rebooted system and tried printing pdf document. This time it printed two pages (instead of one) and the printer hung up. I tried running "dpkg" but it's not recognized in my PCLINUXOS. Could I try something else?

I looked over the forum thread and it appears there is some problem with your CUPS on PCLinuxOS. We don't test on PCLinuxOS so hopefully another user in the forum can provide more information.

Sorry I couldn't help more.
