HPLIP

hplip installed but the hp photosmart doesn't print

Until a few days ago, I used that hp phoptosmart c4180 along ubuntu 8.04 hardy. I performed some attempts to make it to print by means of hplip. The results were: either it was possible to print, but without the possibility to use the printer settings or it was possible to use the printer settings but, in the meantime, it wasn't possible to print any longer.
Tired out of that all I installed ubuntu 9.04 jaunty then installed hplip by ubuntu jaunty repositories. The hp-setup was performed all right and the test page was printed well, but when I tried to launch hp-toolbox I obtained this:

So I removed hplip again and reinstalled it by means of sh hplip-3.9.4b.
Now everything seems to be ok but the printer unexplicably does not print again (!!??)

Your hp-check output is missing the last half of the information that should be displayed.

First of all: In the meantime I uninstalled and reinstalled CUPS. Now HPLIP works. HP-TOOLBOX is functional and the printer works, too.

It doesn't look like there is a printer queue configured.

Run:

sudo hp-setup

to configure the printer.

Even if doesn't look there is a printer queue configured, there is one, instead. This is a strange thing. However I ran sudo hp-setup and now in hp-toolbox print dialog box I find:

-Print on file
-PDF
-Photosmart_C4100
-Photosmart_C4100_2

You can see two printer queues now: both of the two printers work, but if you have a look at the hp-check -t (the one I run after the last hp-setup I ran, you can see that this message remains: warning: No queues found. I can't understand the reason why of that. At any rate, it doesn't matter, as the printer works and hp-toolbox is fully usable.

I forgot to tell you that the hplip I am now using is not the binary one that you can find at sourceforge (I removed it), but the one that I found in Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty repositories.
