Is there a RHEL RPM available for x86_64?

Asked by Fionnbharr

Have a HP Officejet Pro L7590 brand-new as of last week, and still never been used -- No installation success.

Have a CentOS 5.2 x86_64 distro.

Have tried all three options: 1) hplip-3.9.4b.run, 2)CentOS instructions from manual install webpage, and 3) RHEL rpm install from manual install webpage.

The RHEL rpm is i386-based, and during execution fails to find dependencies that are explicitly installed and available. I suspect the issue is the 32 bit vs 64 bit requirements.

Surely, with the popularity of 64-bit based systems, I can't be the only one with this issue.

Is there a work-around or other suggestions to get this installed?

We are working on providing a 64bit package in the future.

Sorry for the delay.

In the meantime, have you any suggestions / tips for the manual compile & install for x86_64?

Also, would there be a broad ETA for the 64bit package (like 4Q09, 'sometime in 2010', or the like)?

Comment: According to Intel's 2008 Annual Report, 2009 is the year that unit sales of 64 bit processors will exceed the 32bit sales (AMD crossed that line in 2006) -- so I'm surprised there's not as big a demand for the 64 bit rpms as one would expect!

I can't give a specific ETA--however we are hoping to have the 64 bit RPM in the next few releases.

As for installing on 64 bit, you could try installing HPLIP from source and following the CentOS instructions as a general guide.

Hope this points you in the right direction.

Hi,

From hplip 3.9.10 on wards we are added support for RHEL 64 bit.
You can pick up the RPM Package for the same from www.hplipopensource.com

Hope this helps,
