Error messages after installing hplip-gui in Ubuntu 20.04

Asked by Chris Moriarity

My printer: HP LaserJet 3390, Ethernet connection, IP address 192.168.1.199. I have successfully set up this printer on multiple previous Ubuntu LTS distributions and have always reached a point after installing additional packages where hp-check reports no errors. Not this time. Even after installing many additional packages beyond hplip-gui, the hp-check report ends with:

error: 'libcups2' package is missing/incompatible
error: 'python3-pyqt4' package is missing/incompatible
error: 'gtk2-engines-pixbuf' package is missing/incompatible
hp-check[12006]: info: :[01mMissing Optional Dependencies[0m
error: 'python3-dbus.mainloop.qt' package is missing/incompatible :
hp-check[12006]: info: :Total Errors: 3

libcups2 is installed. python-pyqt4 is not available, python-pyqt5 is installed. gtk2-engines-pixbuf is installed. python3-dbus.mainloop.qt is not available. python3-dbus.mainloop.pyqt is installed.

I guess I wasn't as clear as I needed to be in my previous message. libcups2 from the Ubuntu 20.04 repository is installed. python-pyqt4 is not available in the Ubuntu 20.04 repository, python-pyqt5 from the Ubuntu 20.04 repository is installed. gtk2-engines-pixbuf from the Ubuntu 20.04 repository is installed. python3-dbus.mainloop.qt is not available in the Ubuntu 20.04 repository. python3-dbus.mainloop.pyqt from the Ubuntu 20.04 repository is installed.

In summary, hplip-gui was not set up by HP to be compatible with the Ubuntu 20.04 repository, and should be updated by HP.

From which source did you install HPILP - from the packages in the Ubuntu repositories or from the *.run file downloaded from the HP pages?

The output of hp-check is not very important, if printing works. Can you print?

(and for comment #1: just ignore it, that is spam)

Can you help with this problem?
