Unable to install HPLIP 3.22.10 on LMDE5

Asked by Tib-de-Bar

Bonjour,

Distribution: LMDE5 (Linux Mint Debian Edition 5, largely based on Linux Debian 11 Bullseye)
Printer: HP Smart Tank 7305
Context: installing the printer on an ethernet network at home. It is shared by several computers, some under Debian 11, others under LMDE5.

The HPLIP package provided by LMDE5 comes from the Debian 11 repositories ( hplip 3.21.2+dfsg1-2 ). It does not support my new HP printer. So I need to install the latest version of HPLIP from your site https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing.

I got it perfectly for my computers running Debian 11.

But under LMDE5, I encounter several blockages. I was able to bypass some. Now I'm stuck at the same point, both for the automatic installation with the hplip-3.22.10.run version for Debian, and for the hplip-3.22.10.tar.gz version.

Problems encountered :
- LMDE5 is not recognized as a supported distribution. --> force install
- Unable to provide root password. LMDE5 does not have a root account --> run the script: sudo sh hplip-3.22.10.run
- Warning: it is not recommended to run the script as root --> force the installation
- Unable to download dependencies. --> download the necessary packages separately before restarting the script. Great difficulty in finding the packages to download, the names being different from those present in the Debian repositories. I found the list in the installation logs under Debian 11.
- Dependencies still not found, because the packages do not exist under Debian 11. (python3-pyqt4)

I'm stuck at this step:

I would greatly appreciate your help to enjoy my new HP smart tank 7305 printer on all my computers.

Thank you for your work on drivers for Linux. It is thanks to its quality that my new printer is an HP.

Cordially,

There isn't any need to use HPLIP. The printer should be
immediately available with the aid of cups-browsed. See
