Is HP smart app mandatory to install the printer HP Envy 6432e on Linux via HPLIP
Hello,
I want to install the printer HP Envy 6432e on my Laptop-PC with OpenSUSE Leap 15.4. HPLIP 3.21.10 is installed. You recently announced on the UBUNTU help pages that HPLIP with version > 3.21.4 supports the Envy 6400-series. Thus, I assumed that on Linux the use of the HP Smart tool is not needed for installation. So, after switching on the power, I inserted firstly the cartridges and connected the printer to the laptop via USB. Indeed, HPLIP (as well as CUPS) recognizes the printer correctly and HPLIP installed the driver for this printer successfully. However, I cannot activate the printer, i.e., printing a test page is not possible. The printer announces the error E0, i.e. cartridges are not ok. This is even the case if I repeated the test after I have removed and re-inserted the cartridges. Since the cartridges are original HP cartridges, and they have been newly acquired together with the printer: is it possible that E0 just means that the cartridges ale locked on principle until HP Smart has been used, and the cartridges are ok? The message E0 appears even if I have removed the USB-connection from the printer. Is therefore the use of the HP Smart printer app absolutely necessary even if I use HPLIP on a linux PC for installation? So, would you please be so kind and provide me the full documentation for this job. I have missed it within the UBUNTU documentations.
Best regards and many thanks for your help in advance.
