I cannot get Mint to find my new HP Envy 6452e printer.

Asked by Robert Petry

I've followed the instructions provided by HPLIP for a new installation up to the point where the device manager is supposed to locate the printer but it just says it's unable to detect a printer on the network.
Rookie user so you'll need to explain it to me like I'm five.
Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon 64bit

Take advantage of an upgrade to Mint 21. The device will be automatically discovered
and installed.

Ok. I've upgraded to Mint 21. Now it still won't print but I get "There was and error during the CUPS operation: Server-error-internal-error"

Printer troubleshooter gives me this info:

USB or network connected? If on USB, disconnect and reconnect
the device to USB. Give the outputs of

  avahi-browse -rt _ipp._tcp
  avahi-browse -rt _uscan._tcp
  driverless

It is network connected. All of the instructions I've seen say not to use a USB cable on this model.

The outputs are also required for a networked printer.

From a terminal wstablish a print queue with the command

  lpadmin -p 6452e -v "ipps://HP%20ENVY%206400%20series%20%5B01793C%5D._ipps._tcp.local/" -E -m everywhere

Test printing with

  lp -d 6452e /etc/nsswitch.conf

How's that?

request id is 6452e-8 (1 file(s))

Still not printing anything. It's still not showing as a connected printer.

lpadmin is a fundamental printing command to set up a printer. It should be shown as set up with

  lpstat -t

Try

  lpadmin -p 6452e -v ipp://192.168.1.167/ipp/print -E -m everywhere
