bad plugin for HP LaserJet m1217nfw MFP

Asked by Arnold Boothroyd

HPLIP indicated that a new plugin was required, but this time (2022/09/10) the Plug-in Installer (after trying to download it) popped up a window saying "file does not match its checksum. File may have been corrupted or altered"

Multiple attempts to download/install the plugin always yielded the same error.

Who should be notified so they can correct this? The only indication of the source of the plugin was that it was obtained via the default plugin installation choice, namely, "Download and install the plug-in from an HP authorized server (recommended)".

Or is there a way to specify a different server that might have a correct version of the plugin?

Which version of HPLIP do you have installed?

Try the following:

Download the file https://developers.hp.com/sites/default/files/hplip-3.22.6-plugin.run by doing a right click on the link and selectin "save target as ..." and store it in the Downloads folder

Then open a terminal window and execute the commands

cd Downloads
sh ./hplip-3.22.6-plugin.run

Inportant: You have to replace "3.22.6" by the version of the HPLIP software that you already have installed.

What happens if you try this?

Thanks very much, Manfred! Doing as you suggested installed the plugin, and I am now able to print.

(I do indeed have version 3.22.6 of HPLIP installed, from the Fedora package hplip-3.22.6-1.fc35.x86_64 and its co-packages hplip-common-3.22.6-1.fc35.x86_64, hplip-gui-3.22.6-1.fc35.x86_64, and hplip-libs-3.22.6-1.fc35.x86_64; I was using the GUI supplied by these)
