installatian hplip-3.22.6 fails

Asked by fons van coillie

I need to install hplip-3.22.6 foor a new printer: HP neverstop laser MFP 1202nw

error: A required dependency 'cups (CUPS - Common Unix Printing System)' is still missing.
error: Installation cannot continue without this dependency.
error: Please manually install this dependency and re-run this installer.

When i try to install manually 'CUPS', the answer is : already installed

On the internet i found:
Check your /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file. Is it empty or corrupted? (Yes!)

The default cupsd.conf file is /usr/share/cups/cupsd.conf.default. You can try comparing the two and see what is different or copy the default file back to /etc/cups/cupsd.conf to see if that fixes the problem.

But i could'nt copy the default file to /etc/cups/ lukte niet: acces denied!

My PC: Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia , HP laptop

thanks foor your attention,
Fons

You actually do not need to install HPLIP. USB or network?

Thanks for your answer. But i'm surprised, i don't need to install HPLIP?
On different websites is said that is the first thing to do, for ex.:
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing
I'll first try with usb, that's the easiest way i suppose.

The world of printing has moved on. You have a modern printer.

> I'll first try with usb, that's the easiest way i suppose.

Network would be easier (but USB is doable). With a network connection, give

avahi-browse -rt _ipp._tcp
avahi-browse -rt _uscan._tcp
driverless

I was not sure what i had tot do with what you posted.
I copied it into a terminal, and this is the result:
fons@fons-HP:~$ avahi-browse -rt _ipp._tcp
fons@fons-HP:~$ avahi-browse -rt _uscan._tcp
fons@fons-HP:~$
fons@fons-HP:~$ driverless
fons@fons-HP:~$ lpsta -t

Opdracht 'lpsta' niet gevonden, bedoelde u wellicht:

  opdracht 'lpstat' van deb cups-client
  opdracht 'lpstat' van deb lprng

Probeer: sudo apt install <deb name>

fons@fons-HP:~$

I tried the 'vuescan' software and that worked fine.
But i'm still interested in your solution, so i would be glad if you
could give me some more explications on what to do.

Thanks
Fons

The first three commands give empty outputs. It appears the printer
is not on the network. So we can try a USB solution.

Go to

  https://github.com/alexpevzner/sane-airscan

and then move on to

  https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/pzz/xUbuntu_18.04/amd64/

Disconnect from USB and download and install sane-airscan and
ipp-usb. Reconnect to USB and re-run the first three commands.
Give the outputs.

There is a typo in the final command. It should be 'lpstat -t`.

first website ( https://github.com/alexpevzner/sane-airscan)

i need a plugin.

You just read it. I like users to know what they are getting into.
Anyway, you have successfully installed ipp-usb. That's good.
We are on our way to success.

You have a print queue called

  HP_Neverstop_Laser_MFP_1202nw_ABCCA8_USB_

Can you print with

  lp -d HP_Neverstop_Laser_MFP_1202nw_ABCCA8_USB_ /etc/nsswitch.conf ?

You need sane-airscan for scanning. Have you installed it? Please
give

  scanimage -L
  airscan-discover

Try this command:

simple-scan "airscan:e0:HP Neverstop Laser MFP 1202nw (ABCCA8) (USB)"

Do you get scanning?

> lp -d HP_Neverstop_Laser_MFP_1202nw_ABCCA8_USB_ /etc/nsswitch.conf

Did you get printing with this command?

Dear Brian,

YES, i get scanning! Not only with simple scan but also with Xsane.
Printing already worked before, and still works.

Thanks a lot for your help and your patience with me.
