Faxing files via Device Manager

Asked by Steven Artigas

Running Mint Mate 19.2. Network printer is HP M1522nf multifunction. Printer driver is v.3.22.4. Attempts to fax files from computer return error message: no answer from receiving fax. The dial tone and dialing beeps are generated as expected. Screen on printer shows dialing... sending p.1, etc. as expected, but the error message displays immediately upon clicking send fax in the Device Manager dialog box and the fax fails. If I print the files and fax directly from the printer to the same fax number, the fax completes as expected.

Previously faxing files has been successful, although when the current driver was installed, the first attempts to do this did not complete and at that time Device Manager did not appear fully operational. After multiple failed attempts, the fax from files did complete when Device Manager finally became responsive.

Update 7/2/22- One-page test fax confirmed received, even after sequence described in first paragraph above. The printer screen stopped at "sending p. 2" even though there was no such page.

Update- just ran <hp-check -t> in terminal, no problems found.
