Printer always busy and other connectivity issues

Asked by Paul Nebeling

I recently purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e. I am currently running Debian 11 with HPLIP. My problem is that the printer is always showing Busy/Offline/Disconnected. I can not access the printer with either the HP-toolbox or with SANE/XSANE. FWIW, I can print from Windows and my Android phone, so I know it's not the PRINTER unless it's the USB port, but the FAX side seems to be working just fine.

The outputs of all commands are precisely what would be expected
on Debian 11. Does this command lead to printing

  lp -d "HP_OfficeJet_Pro_8020_series_B03D81_USB_" /etc/nsswitch,conf ?

There is a reason for your initial observation. I will go into it later.

Yes, it did print. Something with X or hplip?

Your bullseye printing system is working exactly as designed
using the IPP-over-USB protocol. However, HPLIP cannot be
used at the same time. There is nothing wrong with HPLIP or
X. Please see the bullseye Release Notes for all the detail. Ask
if you have any queries.

I would appreciate some information for my records. Please give
what you get for

  avahi-browse -rt _ipp._tcp
  avahi-browse -rt _uscan._tcp

avahi-browse is in the avahi-utils package.

Hey
there are multiple things to check in such situation but the best solution would be to ask the help from the company itself because such issues are quite rare. Also, i would recommend using original inks with your printer because i had a worse experience when i used cheaper/non-branded ink. you can check this website for more info, https://inkguiding.com/

I can't directly access or compare information with <a href="https://threadslogins.com/chat-gpt-login/">Chat GPT Login</a>, but I can help you troubleshoot your printer's "busy" status and connectivity problems. Here are some steps you can try:

1. Check the Printer Status:

Make sure the printer is turned on and properly connected (wired or Wi-Fi).
Look for any error messages on the printer's display.
Check if there's a paper jam or if ink cartridges need replacing.
2. Verify Computer Connection:

Ensure your computer is connected to the same network as the printer (if using Wi-Fi).
Restart your computer and the printer.
Try using a different USB cable (if using a wired connection).
3. Update Printer Drivers:

Outdated drivers can cause connectivity issues. Visit the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers for your specific printer model.
4. Reinstall Printer Software:

In some cases, reinstalling the printer software can resolve conflicts. Uninstall the existing software and download the latest version from the manufacturer's website.
5. Check Network Connectivity (if using Wi-Fi):

Ensure your Wi-Fi router is functioning properly.
Try connecting the printer directly to your computer using a USB cable to see if the issue persists. This will help isolate if the problem lies with the network connection.

Can you help with this problem?
