HPLIP GUI & sleeping MFP M234sdw

Asked by Charles Curley

I have an MFP M234sdw on a Debian 11 (Bullseye) system via USB. CUPS works fine with it. However HPLIP seems to think that a sleeping printer is AWOL: "Device is busy, powered down, or unplugged", code 5002. HPLIP is version 3.21.2+dfsg1-2.

Since I don't see a way to search bugs around here, my questions are:

Is this a known problem, or shall I file a bug?

Will a more recent version of HPLIP solve this problem? Compiling from source should work.

Thank you.

OK, I did find a way to search bugs. I searched on several likely terms, and nothing obvious jumped out at me.

You are able to print. Why do you need HPLIP?

To get the status of the printer: how much toner, etc.

That should be available from the printer's EWS (Embedded
Web Server). http://localhost:6000, I think.

Anyway, I would advise reading the Release Notes for bullseye.

I would imagine this issue is resolved. It would be nice to have it
marked as such.

The answer is "neither".

"No" is the answer.

Having being given a solution the OP hasn't even the courtesy to
comment on it to help others.

Can you help with this problem?
