Fails to install MFP M283fdn

Asked by Janos Vegh

On Ubuntu 20.04, after sh hplip-3.21.6.run, first I receive
Gtk-Message: 19:02:24.499: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
which probably prevents me to install using a GUI, only.
However, when running
hp-setup -i,
fails with message
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/hp-setup", line 48, in <module>
    from base import device, utils, tui, models, module, services, os_utils
  File "/usr/share/hplip/base/device.py", line 42, in <module>
    from . import status
  File "/usr/share/hplip/base/status.py", line 33, in <module>
    import cupsext
ImportError: libhpdiscovery.so.0: failed to map segment from shared object

How can I fix this error?

What extra information you need, in addition to "MFP M283fdn", provided in
the subject line?

The device is an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283?

Are you more interested in being able to print than debug
hplip-3.21.6.run? Network or USB-connected? Does it
matter?

Yes, it is.

I am interested in printing and scanning.
Otherwise, I tried other 3.xx.x.run versions, too.

Network or USB-connected?

It is USB connected

Install ipp-usb and sane-airscan from

  https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/pzz/xUbuntu_20.04/amd64/

Ubuntu 21.04 gives both by default.

Can you help with this problem?
