centos 7 hplip hp8600 does not work

Asked by Homer W Smith

Running Centos 7 latest, ghostscript 95, hplip 3.20.x

I have a postscript file /tmp/data.print created by gnuplot that prints fine to an hp 4050 in black and white

Running the following script on that file:

#!/bin/bash
gs \
-sDevice=ijs \
-sDeviceManufacturer=HP \
-sDeviceModel="Officejes Pro 8500" \
-dIjsUseOutputFD \
-sOutputFile=/tmp/data.out \
/tmp/data.print

i get a file called /tmp/data.out which when sent to my hp8600 produces an endless stream of blank pages.

Notice the 8500 above, using 8620 produces can't open init device or some such.

Thanks for your help.

THe actual error using any of the 86xx series printers is

unable to open the initial device

The 86xx.ppd files are in the hpijs directory as expected.
