Scan with LaserJet Pro MFP M148dw and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Asked by Faab

HI, I am a beginner with Ubuntu. I have installed hplip-3.21.6.run. I then have read that it should be necessary to install a plugin form the HP site to use the scan functionality. I've found hplip-3.21.6-plugin.run This appears to be a script or something alike. How to run it? How is it possible to use scan functionality on my printer? Thanks a lot for inputs

1. You use the hplip-3.21.6-plugin.run installer by opening a terminal window and then executing the command
sh hplip-3.21.6-plugin.run

2, There is no support for Ubuntu 14.04 any more, this release is "End of Life" (except for ESM which is a paid support extension for servers)
You should upgrade to a supported one (e.g. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS) in due course.

Dear Manfred, many thanks for the feedback. I run the plugin. Still, scangearmp2 does not recognize the HP. I can search for scanners but it will not find anything. I then tried scanimage -L it returned:
device `hpaio:/usb/HP_LaserJet_Pro_M148-M149?serial=VNCPM25452' is a Hewlett-Packard HP_LaserJet_Pro_M148-M149 all-in-one

The LaserJet Pro MFP M148dw, however, works for printing without issues.

Can you recommend another application or approach that I could use to successfully scan with LaserJet Pro MFP M148dw?

Thanks a lot
