Cannot print

Asked by John P Bennett

I have an HP office jet printer and when I try to print i get a message that it is not connected. It has been working OK until now. It still works with a different pc on the same network running windows 10. so the printer is on line and working.

Doctor, doctor, my finger hurts.
Doctor: Which finger?

Which exact printer model? Which precise distribution? USB or
wireless?

Thanks. Now we have something to go on. HPLIP is the version supplied by
Ubuntu?

Please provide the output of

  lpinfo -v

Thanks again for responding

Yes the HPLIP is the version provided by Ubuntu . I have used the software updater and whilst I do not really know I think the problem was caused by an update.

Hi Brian

Sorry missed that and Have no idea how to get it. Tried putting it in terminal but that does not work.

when trying to use the printer I get a message "device communication error(5012)'

As I am sure you realise by now you are dealing with someone who knows nearly enough to be dangerous but not nearly enough to be useful.

If you can tell me how I will get the info.

Hi Brian

Just wondering if you received my message dated 25/06.

In case you did not get it. I am sorry but I have no idea of how to get the output of lpinfo-v. It certainly does not automatically appear unless I do not recognise it.

If will please tel me how to get the info I will certainly get it for you. I will need very basic instructions.

Regards

John

Hi Brian

I have tried to re install printer to see if that will fix the problem. I used the following steps to see if it fixed the problem. I used the following steps using device manager.

1 I uninstalled the printer
2 I connected the printer using a usb cable.
3 installed the printer
4 in the device manager clicked on "wireless/wifi set up using usb
5 Chose my network which was listed as WPA-PSK mode infrastructure
6 asked to choose security type WEP or WPA .only WPA could be selected
7 Typed in key as instructed . Checked and re checked that this is correct then asked some one else to also check
8 clicked on connect
9 received a message waiting for printer to connect.
10 this did not happen. the window just remained open with the only options to go Back or close. Gave it 10 mins to see if it was a waiting game

I can now print whilst USB is connected but not through the network. better than nothing but is a real pain as I have to have a usb cable running across the room

The printer still works on the network using a second computer running windows 10.

Can you please help ?

fixed this after much research on the web.

added printer using USB cable. set up wireless printer did not work so

Simply went to
system
admin
printing
new printer
selected printer
followed prompts.

All working now on the network.
