HP 1020 win't print in Linux Mint 20.1

Asked by William H. Hyde on 2021-04-09

I just upgraded my Dell desktop PC from Linux Mint 17.3 to Linux Mint 20.1. Linux recognizes my HP LaserJet printer 1020 by name and serial number, but it won't print. When I try to print a document, it says printing then printing completed. But the printer (connected and powered) does not print anything. HP Device manager says I need a plugin to enable printing support. I tried to download the plugin, but I get a message: "/home/bill/.hplip/hplip-3.20.11-plugin.run file does not match its checksum. File may have been corrupted or altered." I'm not a strong Linux user and I don't know what to do.

There was no activity, because no one contacted me. I guess no one at HP
wants to help with a discontinued printer. I understand, and I don't fault
you for it. I'd probably have the same attitude if I were in your
I had trouble running the printer using Linux Mint 17, but someone
developed a driver. I loaded it line-by-line into the Linux shell, and it
worked. It doesn't work for Linux Mint 20, however.
I really like the 1020. If it is no longer supported, please let me know.
