No system tray detected

Asked by Marvo

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04 from 8.10, I get an HPLIP error saying No system tray detected on this system.
Sometimes, but not every time, I cannot print even if I reboot. Other times printing works fine.

Printer model is HP LaserJet P1005.

Are you using ubuntu only? For example are you using kubuntu or some other window manager?

Thanks.

Only using Ubuntu. Pretty standard installation.

The only error I see is:

error: Required plug-in status: Not installed

You'll need to run

sudo hp-plugin

to install the plugin. Other than that I don't see any errors that would cause this. We test extensively on Ubuntu and have not seen this error. However we do not test the upgrade path because even though the upgrade path is very heavily tested by Ubuntu there seems to be some variables that can cause problems. You could try installing HPLIP again to see if that might resolve the problem as something might be not installed correctly.
