hp-setup doesn't find Scanjet Pro 4500 fn1 on LAN

Asked by Norbert Zawodsky

Hello!
Today I got a HP "Scanjet Pro 4500 fn1" scanner. Connected it to the LAN (cabled) and so far the scanner works. (scan to folder exported by samba works).

But I would like to use the scanner with (x)sane but sane doesn't find the scanner on my network.
I tried to set it ut using hp-setup, but this tool doesn't find the scanner too.

What could I do?

hplip 3.20.6 under opensuse leap 15.1

Hi ,

Is your scanner and system both are in same network ?
Please make sure they are in same network and try to ping the scanner once.

Hi shivani!

of course scanner and system are in the same network. (As I wrote, scan-to-folder initiated on the scanner works)

192.168.1.1 = PC
192.168.1.132 = old LaserJet M476 MFP (working)
192.168.1.133 = new scanner (not working)

I started wireshark. Now:

hp-setup -g -i 192.168.1.132 (the working old MFP)

I see in wireshark

compared to the working MFP, It looks like the scanjet responds differently to the get-request in package 1

firewall is inactive.
And as I said before, scanning to network folder works.
