HPLIP installation instructions should be improved

Asked by Mark

Hi,

The HPLIP installation instructions would be much better if they addressed the basics at the BEGINNING: When one needs to download and install a printer driver, is it best for one's printer to be turned on and plugged into one's computer BEFORE one downloads and then installs the printer driver? When one needs to download and install a printer driver, is it best for one's printer to NOT be plugged into one's computer until AFTER one has downloaded and installed the printer driver? When one needs to download and install a printer driver, is it best for one's printer to NOT be plugged into one's computer until AFTER one has downloaded and installed the printer driver AND restarted the computer?

All these basics (and probably a few more) should be completely and properly addressed AT THE BEGINNING.

First things first.

Bye,
Mark

Hi ,

Can you please elaborate your issue in detail.

It is not required to plugin the device before installation. It would be helpful if your provide command line output for the issue you are facing.

Hi,

I'm not having an issue — I'm just saying that the HPLIP installation instructions are illogical and unclear (to me, anyway!) in places and could be improved. I have successfully (I think and hope!!) installed HPLIP (which is excellent). (I know that I should stop being so cheap and buy myself a used 64-bit machine — then I wouldn't even need to download HPLIP for my HP LaserJet Pro M15w!)

For example, the HPLIP installation instructions tell you what to do IF your HP printer was plugged into your computer before you started to download and install HPLIP, but the HPLIP installation instructions don't tell you what to do IF your HP printer was NOT plugged into your computer before you started to download and install HPLIP.

If I'd written the HPLIP installation instructions, they'd explain everything UP FRONT — at the BEGINNING. It's logical.

Bye,
Mark
