Version 3.20.6 fails to install on Fedora 32

Asked by Ciaran Mulloy

Printer: HP LaserJet Professional P1606dn
I am running the current version of Fedora 32 on an 64 bit intel box.
I have tried on many occasions to install (and reinstall) both the install scripts: hplip-3.20.6.run
 and hplip-3.20.6-plugin.run.

I have also tried using the hp-diagnose_plugin output which reports " HP Device plug-in version mismatch or some files are corrupted. " /home/cmulloy/.hplip/hplip-3.20.6-plugin.run file does not match its checksum. File may have been corrupted or altered" It proceeds to the attempt to download the plugin but it fails to install with the following CLI messages: "

Downloading plug-in from:
error: /home/cmulloy/.hplip/hplip-3.20.6-plugin.run file does not match its checksum. File may have been corrupted or altered

Done.
error: Failed to install Plug-in.
Either you have chosen to skip the Plug-in installation or entered incorrect Password.

Done.

If I try running the install script "sh hplip-3.20.6-plugin.run" gives the output:

Plug-in version: 3.20.6
Installed HPLIP version: 3.20.6
Number of files to install: 64

Done.

2f8f71a1e1ce409683deb93070b56ed7 /etc/cups/ppd/HP_LaserJet_Professional_P1606dn.ppd

I don't know whether the file is corrupted!

I have run the hp-uninstall script and re-installed it without success!

The install script hplip-3.20.6.run fails to install correctly the proprietary plug which is required for the P1606dn printer.

When I print a pdf document the print process kicks off but fails to print because of an error "Filter failed" which is displayed in the http://localhost:631/ login.

I note also that the utility reports that it's unable to read warning: Failed to read /etc/cups/ppd/HP_LaserJet_Professional_P1606dn.ppd ppd file

I attach the output of hp-check -t:

[cmulloy@phobos hplip] $ hp-check -t
/usr/bin/hp-check:685: SyntaxWarning: "is not" with a literal. Did you mean "!="?

Hi ,

Can you please install 3.20.9 hplip and confirm if you are facing the same issue?

Hi Shivani,
I installed hplip version 3.20.9 and subsequently 3.20.11 when it was released. However I have not been able to resolve the printing issue.

I have since upgraded Fedora version 33, however that should be the same as version 32!

I did spot that hp-check was unable to read the .ppd file. I've done a chmod 644 on the file and hp-check is no longer reporting issues.

When logged in to the CUPS manager it indicates a 'filter failed' issue.
I've included two artefacts below, 1. the output from hp-check and 2. the output from the cups log file:

I attach the output of hp-check:

[cmulloy@phobos cups] $ hp-check
/usr/bin/hp-check:685: SyntaxWarning: "is not" with a literal. Did you mean "!="?
if 'getfacl' not in g and '' is not g and 'file' not in g:
