hplip installer cannot connect to network

Asked by Chuan Liu

When I run hplip-3.20.6.run with sh on my Ubuntu 18.04 machine,
it complains that it cannot connect to the network (see below), but my web browser connects successfully....

CHECKING FOR NETWORK CONNECTION
-------------------------------
error: The network appears to be unreachable. Installation may not resolve all dependencies without access to distribution repositories.
Do you want to continue installation without network?. Press 'y' for YES. Press 'n' for NO (y=yes*, n=no) :

Hi ,

Are you connected to any network?
Because HPLIP requires network to install few dependencies.

Yes, of course. My web browser works perfectly and some of the terminal
applications like apt-get also works.
Only the hplip checking proceedure fails......
