HP 1020 Laserjet Printer won't print in linux mint 19.3

HP-plugin won't finish and hp-setup doesn't help.
It finds and installs my USB connected printer but every time I try to print a test page I get errors like "Error 5012" or "code 12 error"
or"python gobject/dbus may not be installed" or "plug-in install failed"

error: Unable to communicate with device (code=12): hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_1020?serial=JL2RZ2M
error: Unable to print to printer. Please check device and try again.
Before this error happens, I had the system add the printer and i tried to print a test sheet, no joy

Running out of ideas, need some help, not a Linux expert (yet)
I'm using version 3.20.6 of HPLIP

Could you please provide output of hp-check command.
