HP Ink Tank Wireless 415 stopped working after upgrading to xubuntu 20.04

Asked by knorre

HP Ink Tank Wireless 415 stopped working after Xubuntu upgrade from 19.10 to 20.04

I tried adding "new printer" via gui hplip, but it states that can't find the appropriate driver.

Also tried hplip 3.20.5 installer, but it also cannot resolve dependency on python-pyqt5 and finished with errors.

Please, help!

UPD1 hp-toolbox is also non-functional because it cannot find dependency PyQt5.QtWidgets which is absent in 20.04 repositaries

UPD2. hplip 3.20.5 proceeded without errors after manual installation of missing dependencies. However, the problem was not solved: Unfortunately, the printer still not started to work. It looks like that hplip cannot correctly detect printer location

hp-check produced error:
error: Unable to communicate with device (code=12): hp:/usb/Ink_Tank_Wireless_410_series?serial=CN93T5G1CS06PF

Reinstalling fresh xubuntu 20.04 from the scratch did not help. Finally, I downgraded xubuntu (with installing Linux Mint 19.3 xfce) and the printer started.

Try the command

sudo apt install python3-pyqt5 python3-dbus.mainloop.pyqt5 python3-notify2 python3-reportlab

and then repeat installing hplip-3.20.5.run

and finally report the results.

It helped, and hplip-3.20.5.run successfully finished the installation without errors.

Unfortunately, the printer still not started to work. It looks like that hplip cannot correctly detect printer location (printer is usb connected)

hp-check produces error:
error: Unable to communicate with device (code=12): hp:/usb/Ink_Tank_Wireless_410_series?serial=CN93T5G1CS06PF

I reinstalled fresh xubuntu 20.04 and the problem still there.

Below is full hp-check output
