What Ubuntu versions offer HPLIP support for HP Envy 5055 all-in-one printer?

Asked by A. Richard Miller

It seems conspicuously absent from the list of supported printers. Is that an oversight, or a problem? If the latter, are there alternatives?

Almost certainly there are.

Give what you get for

  avahi-browse -rt _ipp._tcp

and

  avahi-browse -rt _uscan._tcp

when the device is connected to the network.

Thank you, Brian, but I can't do that because I'm asking prior to purchasing the printer.

WILL Ubuntu support HPLIP on the HP Envy 5055 all-in-one printer?

Or, what alternatives WILL Ubuntu support for this printer?

For 18.04 onwards and printing: https://wiki.debian.org/CUPSDriverlessPrinting

Thank you, Brian!

1. Does anyone KNOW that CUPS Driverless Printing will work with the HP Envy 5055?

2. It still looks a lot more intimidating than HPLIP. Does anyone know if HPLIP will work with this printer?

When/if we get a clear green light, get the printer, and test, we will report back.
