HP LaserJet Pro MFC M148nw Scanning with xsane fails

Which operating system (including release number) are you using, which version of HPLIP, and from which source did you install it (e.g. from the repository for your operating system distribution, or from the HPLIP web pages)?

System xubuntu Bionic Beaver
HPLIP 3.19.11.run from the Website
the Script removed the previously installed Version of HPLIP.
Must I run that hplip-3.19.11-plugin.run in order to be able to scan?

There is already a newer version available on https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip (3.20.3).
I suggest that you download and install that one, and then check whether it works or not.

That is correct. There is an hp_laserjet_pro_m148-m149 in models.dat.
It is an HPLIP bug. See

I had to remove all old printerqueses and to setup everything new..... then it was working
