MFP M130nw ppd not found

Asked by Patrick Massot

I'm trying to setup a LaserJet Pro MFP130nw on Ubuntu 19.04. hp-setup sees my printer, but then fails to find a ppd. The message in the console are:
HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.19.1)
Printer/Fax Setup Utility ver. 9.0

I tried to download hplip and manually feed laserjet_mfp_m129-m134.ppd but nothing happens.

Set up the device on the network and give the outputs of

 avahi-browse -rt _ipp,_tcp

and

 avahi-browse -rt _uscan,_tcp

I'm sorry, but I don't know what "Set up the device on the network" means.

Use a wireless connection, not a USB connection. The printer's control
panel often helps you to do this.

I managed to setup the printer using WIFI from another computer that has wifi access. I randomly installed and uninstalled every Debian package that seemed vaguely relevant. It's a mess (the printer appears 4 times in the list of printers, and only one appearance works), but I can print, which is crucial in this coronavirus time. Then I typed the two commands you wrote above, but without getting any answer.

Without any output for the commands I gave earlier I cannot proceed
with the idea I had in mind.
