Feature Request for Linux Mint 19.3

Asked by Alexander Seitz on 2020-02-04

Dear HPLIP-Team,

I want to install the linux driver for our new "HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw" which is supported by HPLIP since 3.18.9.
I followed the instructions
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/install/install/index

Sadly my operating System Linux Mint 19.3 is currently not supported by HPLIP:

Log from ./hplip-3.19.12.run

```
HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.19.12)
HPLIP Installer ver. 5.1
error: linuxmint-19.3 version is not supported, so all dependencies may not be installed. However trying to install using linuxmint-19.2 version packages.
```

I've tried to compile the source hplip-3.19.12.tar.gz by myself but the amount of errors I'm getting following the (outdated) manual on
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/install/manual/distros/linuxmint
is just too much to handle it.

Therefore I'm requesting the feature to update support for latest Linux Mint version for HPLIP.

Thank you in advance

If you put this device on the network there should be no problem printing
and scanning with it.

Hi Brian,

I'm able to find the printer in the network, but I'm not able to select the cups driver....

HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw

The CUPSQuickPrintQueues answer does not help me to install and user the printer properly...

Best case would be, if hdlip installation would work and not throw the "error: linuxmint-19.3 version is not supported" message and allow my OS to install the printer driver in the system.

kind regards

Alex

I was able to use the generic driver suggested in brian_p answer:
https://wiki.debian.org/CUPSQuickPrintQueues

Sadly the print results with this driver are not usable for daily business.

Any plans to implement support for linux mint 19.3 or later to hplip-3.x.x.run installer script?
