Problems with the hp-plugin

Asked by Gisela Hagmair on 2019-10-08

After having an update of my operating system from Ubuntu 18.04 to 19.04 I reinstalled the HPlip. At the end of the installation it first said it could not get an appropriate key to download the plugin. I played around a bit, then I managed to install a plugin, but it still did not print. Doing a replugin, it said, that the plugin file was corrupted (or something similar). In the meantime I get no error warning any more, but it still does not print :'D!

Doing the "hp-check -t" and I get no error!

It worked well with the previous Ubuntu-Version and the previous HPLIP. Can you help?

Thanks in advance!

after it had not found the file, I downloaded the file from the HP-Website (, tried to activate it with the command you gave me, but now it says that it can't open it ...

Thanks in advance!

Hi Gisela,

Did you change the directory to the location where you stored the plug-in before typing in the command?

Fabian Knop

Hi Fabian,

I was in the directory where the plug-in or better the given command was stored. I also retried it now again.

It also did not say that it could not find it, it said that it could not open it.

in the meantime Ubuntu 9.10 was released and I updated my system. So I tried to delete the hp-lip as good as I could (using this description: ) and reinstalled it.

Got the same mistake as always since I'm using Ubuntu 9.x - the program is unable to get a key from the keyserver and cannot thus not download the plugin.

I retried your sh-command and it says it can't open it. Do you have any other idea, what could help? (I did not try to use tricks this time)
