Mint 18.3 and officeJet pro 9018

Asked by Tom

Hi,

hplip-3.19.8
linux mint 18.3 Sylvia

Just got an OfficeJet Pro 9018.
I was able to get it connected but test page prints random garbage.

Here is the output from the setup.

Found device: hp:/net/HP_OfficeJet_Pro_9010_series?ip=192.168.2.132
error: No PPD found for model officejet_pro_9010 using old algorithm.
error: No appropriate print PPD file found for model hp_officejet_pro_9010_series
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
error: hp-setup failed. Please run hp-setup manually.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tom

I was able to solve the issue.
I did two things.
1) I unzipped the file in /usr/share/ppd/HP/ for the 9010 driver and run hp-setup and forced the PPD file to the unzipped file.
Im assuming this was not needed but It was the step I did.

I tried to do a "add printer" and used the IP address of the printer but the "add printer" gui kept complaining about a
cups internal-server error so I did the next step.

2) I reinstalled the cups pkg.
sudo apt-get install cups --reinstall

Not sure which of these solved my issue but I can not print a test page.
