HPLIP printing not working

Using HPLIP 3.19.6 on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Printer is HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdw. Can print a test page and text files, but most web pages fail and print similar to the following:

Printer firmware is the latest available.

This is a fresh Ubuntu install that has been apt-updated, -upgraded, and -dist-upgraded. Kernel appears to be the latest. uname -a shows

Linux my-hostname 4.15.0-60-generic #67~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Aug 26 08:57:33 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Tried installing HPLIP 3.19.8 but did not change the issue.

Tried removing and reinstalling the printer with no effect.

Can print the same web pages when booted from the Windows partition on the same laptop.

What's next? Thanks in advance!
