Package hplip without closed-source components

I'm interested in taking the hplip tarball, repackaging without the closed-source libImageProcessor component, and making available through a platform such as Github. This is for the purpose of including in distributions that prohibit packaging/storing tarballs with closed-source components. For example Intel's Clear Linux.

There are some distributions stuck on the 3.18.6 release for this reason.

Do the hplip team have any concerns with this approach - legal or otherwise?
