Recent HP multifunction devices and lineart scanning without JPEG compression

Looks like recent HP multifunction devices have an issue with SANE.

Trying to scan in "lineart" mode with no jpeg compression (which makes no sense at all for lineart) cause the scan to fail.

E.g.:
- on HP 6950 only the fist 2 cm of the page are scanned
- on HP Color Laserjet Pro M281 scanner returns garbage and make the SANE frontend segfault

Since there does not seem to be any interest in fixing this upstream (bug about HP 6950 stayed opened for years without any activity at all), is there any advice on how to deal with this?

Hi,

Can you please provide the distro details?
We have verified this issue from our end on Ubuntu 16.04. We are not seeing this issue with HP Color Laserjet Pro M281.
Meanwhile, please provide the syslog from your system. We will analyze the logs and try to identify the issue from our end.
