HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw

Asked by Ernie95

Hello

I installed successfully HPLIP 3.18.12 on Debian 9.9 via backports( see other post).

Now the issue is :

1) if I use the setup tool of HP device manager : it closes at step 2 after manual detection of the printer (network connexion)

2) I tried via cups. I can detect the printer. Then I have to select in the list the model. I didn't find the exact name :
HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw
But
HP ColorLaserJet MFP M278-M281 Postscript (recommended)

CUPS installed the printer. I launch a test print : no succesful.

I have this message in cups:
Idle - "File "/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpps" not available: No such file or directory"

What is the solution ?

Thanks

Hi Ernie,

Debian 9.9 is yet not supported by HPLIP. Hence you are seeing this issue.
We will support Debian 9.9 in future releases.

Maybe some required dependencies are not installed, Please tun "hp-check" command in the terminal

Thanks Manchikanti Santhosh

hp-check gives the following summary:

Missing Required Dependencies
-----------------------------
error: 'python3-pyqt4' package is missing/incompatible
error: 'gtk2-engines-pixbuf' package is missing/incompatible
error: 'python3-dev' package is missing/incompatible

Missing Optional Dependencies
-----------------------------
error: 'python3-notify2' package is missing/incompatible
error: 'python3-dbus.mainloop.qt' package is missing/incompatible

I installed the packages.

I installed again in cups the rpinter. Same message:
Inactif - File "/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpps" not available: No such file or directory

The printing troubleshhoter says:
'printer-state-message': 'File '
                                                '"/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpps" '
'not available: No such file '
                                                'or directory',
                       'printer-state-reasons': ['cups-missing-filter-warning'],

Any advice is welcolme or I will wait hplip for Debian 9.9

Only printer is an issue
