Can't find printer once ran the hplip download on Ubunut 18.04
HPLIP cannot detect printers in your network.
This may be due to existing firewall settings blocking the required ports. When you are in a trusted network environment, you may open the ports for network services like mdns and slp in the firewall. For detailed steps follow the link. http://
I have checked and my firewalls are disabled.
I am trying to hook my new printer up via a USB connection and I don't have a wireless card on my printer.

I can now get to the device discovery page with the usb. when I hit next it tells me my printer doesn't exist. I have left the usb unplugged for the entire install and made sure the printer itself isn't in sleep mode. But it still isn't happening.

" I have left the usb unplugged "
How do you think that the computer can communicate with the printer if it is not connected?
For the warning about the canberra-module (which should not block anything), try the command
sudo apt install libcanberra-
Which output do you receive for the command
hp-check -t

The loader tells you when to plug in the printer. Or replug it in as the case may be. Even after I do that, the computer still can't find the printer.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).
Check types:
a. EXTERNALDEP - External Dependencies
b. GENERALDEP - General Dependencies (required both at compile and run time)
c. COMPILEDEP - Compile time Dependencies
d. [All are run-time checks]

What model is the printer?
The system does not show any trace of a HP printer on the USB ports.
Do you have the chance to try with a different cable?
For diagnostic purposes do the following:
If the printer is plugged in, unplug it and wait half a minute.
The plug the usb cable with the printer into the PC and wait half a minute again.
Finally issue the command
dmesg | tail
What output do you receive?

These messages probably indicate a general problem on your system.
I have no idea what the cause is for that.
The error messages mention libQtCore.so.4.8.7, so maybe you should try reinstalling the package libqtcore4

THank you for your time. Not a programmer so no idea how to try what you suggested. I'll have to go back to Windows...lol. That I know how to get to work with my new printer. Thank you again for your time.
Can you help with this problem?
Provide an answer of your own, or ask Lori Carnahan for more information if necessary.
