Debian 9.8 and HPLIP : issue with Color Laserjet Pro MFP M 281 fdw

Asked by Ernie95

Hello,

I tried to install HPLIP on Debian 9.8 for my printer (Color Laserjet MFP M281fdw).

1st trial: use of HPLIP 3.16 already present in Debian 9.8.
Unsuccessful as my printer is not present in HPLIP 3.16

2nd trial : use of stretch blackport.
The printer is installed via cups method. The method via hp-setup doesn't work.
But I have the following message if I print:
/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpps is not present

But hplip is installed.

I tried to uninstall and to use .run file (3.19 or 3.18) but I have 2 warning messages during the installation and then it stops:

error: debian-9.8 version is not supported, so all dependencies may not be installed. However trying to install using debian-9.6 version packages.

and

error: A required dependency 'pyqt4-dbus (PyQt 4 DBus - DBus Support for PyQt4)' is still missing.
error: A required dependency 'pyqt4 (PyQt 4- Qt interface for Python (for Qt version 4.x))' is still missing.
error: Installation cannot continue without these dependencies.
error: Please manually install this dependency and re-run this installer.

Thanks for your help in order that my printer works

Hello
Solved with:

apt show -a hplip
then you see 3.18 version

and :
apt install -t stretch-backports hplip
same for hplip-gui
