HP Laserjet Feeds Paper but Doesn't Print

Asked by Ralph Mohler

After installing a HP Laserjet M1217 nfw MFP on Linux Mint using HPLIP ver. 3.18.9 and sending a test page to the printer, the printer feeds a sheet of paper through the device but does not print the test page. The same is true if a doc file is printed. The paper feeds but nothing prints. I have deleted the printer and repeated the process several times. Same result. This same laptop using Linux Mint printed ok before I installed HPLIP ver. 3.18.9. The last version of HPLIP that was installed was ver. 16. something. don't recall the exact version. I have been using Linux Mint since the beginning of 2018. I have allowed updates to be installed by the update manager app since first installing the OS. I am now using Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia.

The interesting part is that my wife also uses Linux Mint and her machine prints just fine on the same printer. The main difference between the laptops is that she hasn't updated from the version of Linux Mint installed at the same time back at the beginning of 2018. So I am wondering if the issue arises from my updating to Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia or to updating to HPLIP ver 3.18.9. If I could I would back date both items to the initial installation config but I do not know if that is possible. I would prefer not remove the OS and re-install. Perhaps there is a driver issue with HPLIP ver 3.18.9 or something else.

If anyone has a suggestion I'm definitely interested.
