Can't open HPLIP download

Asked by Andrew Page

I can download HPLIP to install my Deskjet Ink Advantage 2657 but I can't open it. A window open telling my Pluma can't read the file and asking me for another way. How can I open the files? My system uses Linux Debian

You should not edit that file, but execute it with a shell.

Execute the command

sh /home/ray/Downloads/hplip-3.18.6.run

and provide answers as appropriate.

Oops, sorry, copy/paste error. The file name will be different for you.

Manfred: when I changed the file name to hplip-3.18.7 (which is the downloaded file) I get the response in the shell that the file doesn't exist

What was the original file name, and in which directory is it stored?

Just open a terminal window, "cd" (change directory) into the right directory and execute the command "sh filename" (replacing "filename" with the name of the downloaded file).

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Andrew Page for more information if necessary.
