HP LaserJet MFP M130fw prints "Unsupported Personality: UNKNOWN"

Asked by Sergey Panov

The new HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130fw printer is discovered by GNOME printer config, but I could not print the test page.
I did remove printer and added it using hp-setup (had to manually enter its IP address).
Relevant lines in /etc/cups/printers.conf :
<Printer HPLaserJet-MFP-M130fw>
...
MakeModel HP LaserJet MFP m129-m134 hpijs, 3.18.6
DeviceURI hp:/net/HP_LaserJet_MFP_M129-M134?ip=192.168.1.33
...
</Printer>

I can even use it as a scanner remotely, over the local network, but when I try to print anything I am getting

"Unsupported Personality: UNKNOWN"

printed instead. The HPLIP version is 3.18.6 and printer is supposedly supported since 3.16.11

Hi,

Try once doing an OS update and installing latest HPLIP driver.
Run 'sudo hp-logcapture' before u print.
It will generate logs tar file . So please attach them here .

Srinivas,
 I am on Fedora 28 and HPLIP 3.18.6 packages to not contain "hp-logcapture". Are there any tricks to get verbose log via "journald" and extract them using "journalctl"?

I was trying to find some discrepancy between info in test page printed from Windows10 and "hp-info" output and there is nothing suspicious. Unless family-class should be something othere than "['PCLM']".

 The W10 test page reports that the "Driver Name" and the "Printer Model" are "HP LaserJet MFP M129-M134 PCLm-S".

 The "hp-info" output:
# hp-info -i
warning: hp-info should not be run as root/superuser.

It looks like something happened between versions of HPLIP in Fedora27 and Fedora28 -- printing works from Fedora 27 bun not from Fedora 28 .

 I'll try to figure out why.

@spanov Did you mange to find a solution for this? I am seeing the same thing now on Fedora 29 (same printer model).

For anyone else with the same problem, I eventually resolved it.

I had installed the printer using hp-toolbox. I tried deleting and re-installing; no joy. So, I tried system-config-printer instead, and choose a different one of the 3 drivers offered. That worked.

Can you help with this problem?
