hp-doctor weird responses based on python version

Asked by Stdedos

I get different hp-doctor output if run with python2 vs python3:

On python2, after my workaround at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hplip/+bug/1759278/comments/4:
======================================================================================================
$ python2 `which hp-doctor`
error: cupsext not present in the system. Please re-install HPLIP.
======================================================================================================

(I have had already done sudo apt-get install --reinstall hplip, but installation was mostly pristine anyway)

On python3, however:
======================================================================================================
$ python3 `which hp-doctor`

I might be missing (a few) soft dependencies, but I don't think I "actually" miss anything. Feel free to correct me though.

Hi Stdedos,

Linuxmint 19 is not yet supported. It will be supported in the next HPLIP release.
You can thus install Linuxmint 18.3 instead for now.

To install HPLIP driver, please follow the below steps:
1. Do a "sudo hp-uninstall" to remove existing HPLIP installation.
2. Goto https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip and download and install the latest driver.

When you change python2 to python3, uninstall and reinstall driver once again.

Regards,
Srinivas Teja.
