HP printer program problem(s) hplip-3.18.7

Asked by Kruizinga Geert

during the installation of hplip-3.18.7 from the website

https://sourceforge.net/projects/hplip/files/hplip/3.18.7/hplip-3.18.7.run/download?use_mirror=nchc&r=https%3A%2F%2Fdevelopers.hp.com%2Fhp-linux-imaging-and-printing%2Fgethplip&use_mirror=nchc

with ubuntu 18.04 to connect a wireless HP Deskjet F4580 (also wireless during installation) canberra-gtk-module was not found.
The printer-program works, but the HPLIP Status Service shows <No system tray detected on this system> and < Unable to start, exiting>

At the end of the installation one can read:
-----
Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py:127: RuntimeWarning: PyOS_InputHook is not available for interactive use of PyGTK
set_interactive(1)
No systemtrayicon available
-----

I typed in the terminal: $ sudo apt install libcanberra-gtk-module
(Alessander Botti Benevides 06.08.2018)

The error-messages stay. The self-diagnose utility of the HP Device Manager shows the same error-messages as Alessander Botti Benevides wrote.

I hope that someone can help.
Thank you in advance

Geert

Hi,

We will check with the team and try to fix the "canberra-gtk-module" and "No system tray" issues as part of our future releases.
Hope you are not seeing "canberra-gtk-module" issue after running the command "sudo apt install libcanberra-gtk-module" and reinstalling the HPLIP driver.

Regards,
Srinivas Teja.
