16.04 ubuntu can't detect printer/scanner HP OfficeJet6950 for setup

Asked by Paula Konheiser

Hello,

I have Ubuntu 16.04 and the printer model is HP OfficeJet6950. HPlip is installed and all drivers are selected. Printing is working even though I'm not able to set it up over the hp toolbox. Now I wanted to start the scanner, but the laptop can't find the printer (even though I had it connected with the USB port). Is there something I can do or are these two models not compatible?

Kind regards,
Paula

Hi Paula,
As you mentioned in the above message, it is sowing that some dependencies are missing.
Please install the HPLIP driver properly.
Get the latest HPLIP driver from the below path and install using following command :

   sh hplip-3.xx.xx.run
Also install the plugin using following command:
   hp-plugin

path : https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip

Thanks,
Badal Kumar

Hey Badal,

I was able to install the plugin.
I reinstalled the latest version, but it still showed me the same missing dependencies. After I ran

sh hplip-3.18.6.run it just told me .
can't open hplip-3.18.6.run

Hi Paula,
The dependency which all are missing at the time of installation are required for scanning.
It need to be install with driver installation.

Please share the OS details which you are using for the same, which will help me to fix the issue.
