configure paper size to A4

4. my problem is:

when scanning (xsane), the maximum paper size is 216.75 mm x 277.71 mm. The A4 paper size is 210 mm x 297 mm., so there are 20 mm missing at the end of the scanned paper.

but when coying, the A4 paper size of the original will be comletly scanned and printed.

Do you have a solution for the problem? Thank you!

Hi Christian,

In Xsane, you can go under window options, select standard options.
In this, select bottom right x, bottom left y to appropriate values as per the paper size you are scanning.
In your case you can select a4 paper size 210 mm * 297 mm and do the scan.
If you set bottom right x, bottom left y to say 210 mm * 250 mm and do a a4 paper scan, you will see a crop in the ouput file saved.

thanks a lot for your help.

When I select -> window options -> standard option, the output is as you
can see at the first screenshot. Not much.

When I select -> window options -> advanced option, I find such
possibilities (see 2nd screenshot). The problem is, it is limited to
maximum length of 277.707 mm.

Any more idea?

Hi Srinivas,

I have no idea why you do not receive the attachments. This never
happened to me before.

I would like to describe the two screens:

1. when I select -> window options -> standard option, than appears -
besides of the main xsane-window - something like a "beam" just with the
sane-logo on it. There is no menu or something to select.

2. when I select -> window options -> advanced option, I can configure
the paper width from 0 mm up to 216.747 mm, what is enough for A4
(210mm). But the paper length is limited up to 277.707 mm, what is not
enough for A4 (297 mm).

3. What is surprising to me is, when copying, I can select the correct
A4-size (-> settings -> configuration) and the printer does the job.

Hi,

Please try scan after installing the latest driver and plugin.
Also what is the behaviour with hp-scan upon selecting a4 size? Is it working?

To install HPLIP driver please follow the below steps:

1. Goto https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip and download and install the latest driver for your distro.
2. To install, run the command "sh hplip-3.18.6.run" in terminal from the location where you have downloaded the driver.

Hi Srinivas,

I tried to install the drivers hplip-3.18.6.run and hplip-3.18.7.run. It
was not possible.

At the beginning the system says:
error: debian-9.5 version is not supported, so all dependencies may not
be installed. However trying to install using debian-9.4 version
packages. -> could this be the main problem?

And at the end:

I add the screenshots for you:

screenshot 1: when I select -> window options -> standard option, there
is nothing to select.

screenshot 2: when I select -> window options -> advanced option, I can
configure the paper width from 0 mm up to 216.747 mm, what is enough for
A4 (210mm). But the paper length is limited up to 277.707 mm (A4 is 297
mm).

screenshot 3: when I select -> window options -> preview (Vorschau) I
can select "DIN A4 upright" (DIN A4 hoch), but the scan is about 20 mm
to short.

Besides the scan-behaviour seems to be o.k., specially when I change the
size at "advanced options". But: after scanning there is an information
saying "scanned pages: 0". But there is one, unfortunately cropped.

Mysterious... Still an idea?
