Why is M633fh and other MFPs 'partial/endoflife' support?

Asked by Jonathan McDowell

I'm considering purchasing an MFP M633fh. The HPLIP supported printers page says that it is "Partial - End of Support', but it's still being sold new on the HP website and the chat rep there says they think it's still fully supported as a product.
The same applies to all the monchrome MFPs with similar model numbers (.e.g M632 variants). What's going on?
Why are these models considered obsolete? Is it just that there's some small limitation- should I worry about it, or fall back to my backup plan of a dedicated non-MFP printer that does have full support?

Any guidance would be most welcome.

What I am trying to achieve: buy a Mint18.3-compatible high volume printer, possibly an MFP
Steps I took : check the hplip supported devices page
What happens: candidate brand new printer model is listed as 'end of support'
What I think should happen instead: things that are new should not be end-of-support, or the reason should be explained more

Thanks!!

That doesn't answer my question at all. I already read that page. It says that "Partial- End of Support' means that "The HP product has reached the end of support life, " but the M633fh has NOT reached the end of its support life according to HP.

Hi Jonathan,

Can you let me know whether you are facing any issues with the usage of this printer in HPLIP? We will check and assist you.
Regarding the data updated in the supported printers list page for this model, we will check this further and update.

Thanks,

In the end I never bought this printer, since I was unable to tell what the degree of non-support really was, I made a more conservative choice and got a printer for which HPLIP support is marked as full.
But I may want to get one in the future so any updates would be appreciated.
