Linux install WiFi vs CUPS

Asked by Douglas Swinhart

We used to be able to select "manual" during install and simply input an IP address for a printer already configured. Now it seems the installer ONLY USES CUPS and "somehow" NOW NEEDS to be redirected? This is creating an enormous amount of time spent just to get the correct driver installed and the end result is several dependencies are missing and unattainable from the Linux Channel / repositories ...

I liked the previous install procedure much better.

Iam expecting you are trying to connect printer using wifi.

You can add printer using below options.
1.During driver installation
Have both printer and your system are in same wifi network.
Then select wireless/802.11 option and follow the subsequent steps
or you can invoke hp-wificonfig command to do same procedure.

2.With CUPS,
Have both printer and your system are in same wifi network.
Then open localhost:631, select IPP protocol, give the printer's ip, choose HP and do susbsequent steps to
add printer. It does not take much time either.

Do share the exact steps you did so that I can help you even more appropriately.

Thanks,
Srinivas Teja.
